Hot Tab Safety
The healthy and fun experience received from a hot tub far outweighs
the risks but you should always be aware of the potential dangers are
accompanied with hot tubs. Poor sanitation and incorrect use are the
major factors that cause spa related injuries and illnesses.
List of Do's
- DO supervise children at all times and make sure
an adult is supervising at all times
- DO take your children with you when leaving the hot
tub area, even if its only for a few minutes
- DO maintain a clean Hot Tub or Spa at all times
- DO consult a doctor before using a hot tub if you
have a history of heart disease
- DO make sure to leave the hot tub slowing as the
hot water relaxes your muscles and you may feel lightheaded.
List of Don'ts
- DON'T use a hot tub during lightning or
rainstorms because of the threat of lightning striking the water
- DON'T use a hot tub if you are pregnant
- DON'T use a hot tub if the water appears cloudy or
if there is a strong chlorine smell. These symptoms most likely mean
that the water needs treatment. Using the hot tub under these conditions
could produce a skin rash known as pseudomonas
- DON'T use electrical devices near the hot tub, when
possible use battery powered devices
- DON'T allow people with infections or open wounds
to enter the hot tub and especially kids with diapers. Fecal matter
can contaminate the water and cause others using the hot tub to become
ill
